Bernie, for starters - do not be distressed. I am the one who had the
same problem, because I am halfway blind. You came to the right person
wanting to know how to enlarge your print. There are a number of ways:
1. for starters: On the top right of the menu bar are a number of
icons. The farthest left one resembles a computer screen. Here you can
set a larger print. The default is 1440x 900. You go upwards and things
get larger. But things get also more jaggged and fuzzy. So this is Not
the preferred way, but will help in emergencies when you can't find
anything else in the universe to help you enlarge.
2. Let's just start with mail ( but actually all the applications
usually have this feature). On the top of the toolbar are a number of
icons ( forward, flag, attach etc) The application comes with a
default, but you can add a number of features to this ,one of which is
to enlarge or vice versa, showing up by a big or small A. If you are in
'mail" click view , the window will show among others : Customize
toolbar. There you see the default set,. but also all the other icons
which you can drag into your own toolbar. I have the big and little A
showing in every thinkable toolbar of every application.
But you can also pull down under 'mail' : Here you go to preferences
and click fonts and colors. You can select a font and its size.I have
mine set for size 14 and some 16 and the font "Verdana" because I like
its clean look. And you can read every message wonderfully well.
I get the NEW York Times e-mail each day. And here comes the
individual toolbar enlargement in very handy.
3. The browsers have the same capability. Take Internet explorer: Under
"view" you can pull down the "Customize toolbar" and you can find all
kinds of icons that might help you, including the one for enlargement :
here a thick kind of a cross , and for making things smaller a sort of
thickish pancake. But under "Eplorer" you can also pull down
preferences and there you can enlarge your fonts permanently. Click on
"languages and fonts."
Safari has the A already showing on top. However, go to preferences and
you can set the size and fonts permanently under "Appearance"
For transferring files I am not the expert. This depends whether or not
they are compatible to work in OSX and the version of OSX. Most of mine
were ok and all were miraculously transferred from Claris 4 into
Appleworks 6. Some non-apple subversives had to stay in 9 to be
accessed through "classic". But this will be addressed by our esperts,
I am sure.
