A couple of weeks ago I posted re the broken screen on our iBook.

After doing some research, replacing the LCD on our iBook doesn't seem to be
a realistic option.

The cost a new screen runs around $350 - $400 (this for DIY installation).
I'm pretty comfortable fooling around with the innerds of PCs, but I'm not
sure if I want to tackle replacing an LCD; especially when the part costs
$400.

There's also the option of installing a used screen. I've never purchased
used computer parts online -I have a "gut" resistance to it - but a lot of
people swear you can get good deals this way and still purchase safely :-)
I'll continue to see if I can locate one.

According to the Apple web site, Apple charges $823.95 to replace the
screen, and I just got a quote from MacTown for $859.99 . Considering the
rapidly dropping prices of laptops, the repair doesn't seem to make economic
sense.

I can order a refurbished G3 iBook from Apple for $679 (and new G4 800mhz
for $1100) Also, since cost is a major consideration here, I can't ignore
the fact that everybody and their brother has windows laptops on sale for
the Christmas season.

So, unless I locate a used screen, it looks like our broken LCD iBook is
dead and I'll be making a unplanned purchase of a new laptop for Christmas.
