A friend of mine back in the UK just got a new iMac, but is finding the ethernet port is not working for outgoing connections when attached to the hub. I have some vague memory that when 10.3 was released, it caused pain to iMac and iBook users, but as I have a powerbook I didn't pay a lot of attention at the time.
