I think I am confused. I did not know that you could run OS 8.2 on an
iBook.
If on the other hand you meant OS 10.2, then this can happen and the
culprit usually turns out to be corrupted preference files. Try
deleting the preferences for the dock and log out then log back in (or
restart). The black rectangle is a new symptom, but it could be
pointing to a problem in the same direction.
