I have had my iBook for well over a year now. And recently I have been having trouble with my track pad. It seems it has smoothed out in the area that my finger uses most and has become a hassle to use when trying to highlight text or just surf the web. Basically my finger sticks to it if my hands are moist.
IF you tilt my iBook up to the light you can see it glare off where I have "worn it out" in that area. SO, I did something about it. I powered it down and wiped it off with a cloth. I took Scotch tape and put it down in strips lining each one up perfectly and taking a small razor and EVER SO GENTLY, trimming off the excess. AHHH, the joy of having my finger float across the pad without effort again. Its only been 30 minutes but I had to tell everyone who may experience the same thing. I don?t recommend the clear tape that is slick and glossy. I should be the kind that is opaque. If you want to jazz things up a bit go for some tape with color.
