I was surprised to be able to burn two CDs at the same time today. My old beige G3 desktop has a Yamaha FireWire CDRW and a LaCie USB CDRW plugged into it. The Yamaha used not to work in OSX, so I ran it in OS9 using Toast 5.1. I had added the LaCie so I could work in OSX, and I ran it on Toast 5.2.
Today I was using Toast 5.2 to back up the Data on partition the LaCie in OSX, and wondered if I could use Toast 5.1 via Classic to back up the Photos partition on the Yamaha at the same time. So I launched Toast 5.1 from my OS9 partition. But instead of Classic starting up, Toast 5.1 opened up. So I had both Toast 5.2 and Toast 5.1 windows in OSX. I fired up the Yamaha FireWire, and Toast 5.1 saw it for the first time ever. So I started working with that drive, and was burning two CD-RWs at the same time! Puzzled as to how this could be done, I discovered that both Toasts could now see both CDRWs; in other words, Jaguar had merely added support for the fast old Yamaha FireWire drive. And I guess Toast 5.1 is really a carbon app that runs under both OS9 and OSX, and does not need Classic to run in OSX.
