I haven't done any updates from Mac OS 8 to 8.1 like that, but I have
downloaded 9.1 and 9.2 and updating 9 from a burned CD. I just copied the
file I downloaded from Apple's website onto the CD, then double clicked it,
expanded it on the desktop of the machine I was updating and then ran it
from the hard drive. Like I said, I'm not sure if this works the same in OS
8, but did for OS 9, so it should be worth a shot.
