There's no need to remove the original drive. I have a computer similar to yours, except mine is the G4/450 instead of the G4/400. Mine has three hard drives in it right now. Two of them are on the main hard drive controller and one of them is where you have a Zip drive. (I removed the Zip because I never used it.) Any standard 3.5 inch IDE (ATAPI) hard drive should work as a second drive on the main controller. If you're using the ribbon cable that came with your computer, be sure to set the jumper on the drive to cable select or slave because the first drive should be the master. I don't think the controller supports drives larger than 120 GB.
