The problem being the mylar embedded circuit contact sheets do
  not function when wet (thus the thourough dry-time needed), or
  they will short-circuit, and of course, not work.
When mine needs a REALLY good cleaning, I dissasemble & clean
  every part I can, DRY, then reassemble.  Having another keyboard
  handy (or at least a picture) is useful for replacing the keypad tops.
