As you may remember, last week I purchased a new MacBook Pro from
MacAuthority.

One of the first things I did after connecting the computer to my home
network was set up my HP printers, a USB connected inkjet and a LaserJet
1200 connected via a printserver to my network.

It was a quick process and everything went smoothly.

I began installing apps and doing work including printing, mostly to the
LaserJet.

Last night I needed to print something and the LaserJet was not in the
printer list - strange!

So I opened up the Printer Pane in system preferences and set up the
LaserJet but when tried to print a document nothing happened. So I
deleted the printer and tried again - still not printing. I could print
to the Laserjet from my wife's pc and from my old iBook. I could print
my document to the inkjet printer. But I still could not print to the
LaserJet from the MacBook Pro.

I played around with the printer preferece pane, restarted the computer,
restarted the printer and it's printserver, still I was not able to
print to the LaserJet.

I finally turned the computer off and went to sleep. This morning the
problem was still there. Sherry and I rode our tandem bicycle to the
swimming pool, swam laps and returned home. Still wouldn't print. I
figured I was going to have to delete all the printer preferences and
perhaps uninstall all those apps.

Then I was struck by the proverbial bolt of lightening - "Repair
Permissions, idiot."

I did and the printer works just fine.

So let this be a lesson to all of you out there. When things don't work
as they ought, repair permissions.

Harry

BTW does anyone know how to repair permissions on my lower back....?
