I have an FTP server running on a Mac that is running OS X Server. One folder on that server is set up as the only access point for FTP.
When I copy a file via our office's local network into that folder (in this case a Photoshop TIFF file, let's call it Foobar.tif) and then use FTP to view the files in that folder, the file shows up via FTP as "Foobar.tif.bin" and is listed as a MacBinary file with a size of 1.0 KB. If I view that file in the Finder on the local computer where it's stored, it shows up as "Foobar.tif" and is listed as a Photoshop file with a size of 35 MB. But if, instead of copying that file over the local network, I FTP to the folder and "put" the file in there, it now shows up via FTP as "Foobar.tif" and is listed as being its actual size (35 MB). Can anyone explain why the file, when copied directly over the network, displays as a .bin Macbinary file when viewed via FTP? Thanks. Dan
