Regarding Eudora, if you have sorting rules in place, try disabling  
them. I've had a corrupt rule cause that sort of crash, and it seems  
likely considering the crashes occur during the sorting process.

Also, you might want to run Apple Hardware Test from your install  
DVD. Multiple application crashes and random flakiness can sometimes  
be attributed to failed RAM.
