I have had Mac's with a disc corruption act in a similar manner.

If you had another Mac you could put this one in target disc mode and
run Tech Tool Pro on the other Mac to repair the hard drive of the eMac.
If not take it to Ward.

Subject: [MacGroup] Need Emac Help

Ok. so I turned off my computer as usual using shutdown. Now, when I
try to start it, all I get is the "sound" and then the gray apple......
it won't LOAD. I can't open the disc tray so I can't put in any disc to
reinstall. or check. Nothing works. just the power button.

Any suggestions? I am using a neighbor's computer... so not sure when
I will be able to check email again. It is not under Applecare any
longer.

It is a G3, power pc with I think. an 850 plus processor. and 1 gig of
memory.

I have no idea why it won't load. it always has before. I haven't loaded
anything new in a long time..

Thanks for any suggestions... including where to take it.. I have no
idea now since Mactown closed. I couldn't get the new apple store to
answer the phone earlier......
