as i understand, usb limits for full speed devices is 16'-5" and  
9'-10" for low speed. while the standard allows 28m or 87'' ie it  
would require a powered hub every 10' foot for a low speed device,  
which doesn't seem practical. you can find more at http://www.usb.org.

(laptops equipped with apple remote make this child's play, but i  
assume from your question that you are on another variety of machine).
