When looking at the firewire drive enclosures, some brag about having an Oxford 911+ chipset, some don't. Is there an advantage to one chipset over another?
I don't know if it's still true, but some time back the Oxford 911 was the only reliable Firewire chip, if you wanted to connect to your Mac. I bought a portable Firewire+USB enclosure last summer with an Oxford 911 chip and it works flawlessly as I haul it around routinely connecting to a half dozen machines. It contains a 300 GB drive.
