I let me kids use my camera from time to time. They take lots of pictures of our ONE cat. They make fine subjects. The kids get some really crazy photos of things. Patterns, colors, every day things... playground equipment.
I think photography is one of those things (at least for me) that you go through times when there is a high level of interest and then it tapers off for a bit.
