Hi Ben,

I have a Western Digital 320 GB drive recently purchased from Best Buy.  I'm running it USB with a G4 and 10.3.9.  It also has firewire capability.  Since I'm already using 2 firewire externals I chose to use the USB.

It powers on and off with the computer (supposedly)!  THE CATCH - when I shut down my computer it will restarts on it's own!

Tech support finally said it was defective!  They wanted me to try the firewire hookup to eliminate the possibility it was just the USB.  I haven't done that as yet.  Now when I shut down I just unplug the thing from the strip.

Have you tried using the computer without the drive hooked up??  Could be a problem with it.

Best - LLL
