Harry-
I didn't have an answer to your speech-to-text question the other day,
but as I was listening to a podcast tonight, I may have found
something. Well, maybe not. After I just typed that, I re-read the
info about the product and I don't think it's speech-to-text. But in
the interest of passing on a new product, here it is:
Called Transcriva , it is transcription software, which sounds like
you listen and type. Not exactly speech to text. The product page
says: Transcriva does require you to do the listening and typing but
it gives you maximum flexibility, a beautiful, easy-to-use interface,
simple multiple speaker support, and plenty of polish. The result is a
powerful tool with a low price tag. Website = http://www.bartastechnologies.com
A more expensive product is from
http://www.macspeech.com/
called Dictate, costs $199.00, supposed to be really good at speech to
text. I think you have to 'train' the software to know your voice.
Would that be a problem if you are using it with different voices that
you have interviewed? I don't know.
Take care,
Bill

Anyone have experience with digital recorders.
I was interviewing someone for my upcoming "Notes From the
Motherboard"
for the May Access article and the tape recorder ate the tape. I
want to
get a digital recorder that will record 1.5 to 2 hrs. and plug into a
usb port on the Mac to transfer the file to the Mac.
Any suggestions?
Also, is there software available that will turn speech into text?
Would
it be able to transfer recorded speech as well as speech from the
computer's microphone?
Thanks.
Harry
