After seven years, my faithful Lampshade Mac died and went to computer heaven. Fortunately, a symptom showed up several days before, and I popped for a new 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (why has Apple stopped giving their iMac models a name?), running 10.5.2. I was able to get most important stuff "migrated" to the new iMac before the old one died, and since it was the logic board, not the hard drive, that expired, I can still hook them both together via Firewire and get other stuff off the "dead" Mac. After two days, I've more or less straightened out the usual hassles that occur when one updates -- with one major exception. Microtek has confirmed that that they don't have, and never will have, drivers for my old 4700 scanner that will run under 10.5. Even worse, after some searching online, I haven't located ANY scanner that will run under 10.5. Does anyone know of such an animal? My needs are minimal, but I do need a scanner from time to time. So I'm looking for something inexpensive -- okay, cheap -- in the $150 to $250 range. Any suggestions will be most appreciated.
