I don't use the Apple Mail program but a friend asked me to help him
with Apple Mail, so I'm trying it out. BUT I'm running into a problem
with the outgoing mail server.

My ISP is Bellsouth and in setting up an account in Mail I get the
account info from Powermail (that's the email program I use). My
outgoing mail server is mail.bellsouth.net.

All the account settings in Mail are the same as the account settings in
powermail. I am able to receive mail in the account I set up in Apple
Mail BUT when I try to send mail from my bellsouth account in using
Apple Mail I get this error message

The SMTP server "mail.bellsouth.net" is not responding. Check your
network connection and that you entered the correct information in the
"Outgoing Mail Server" field.
If it still doesn't respond, the server might be temporarily
unavailable. If you continue, you may not be able to send any mail.

I have no problems using the same account in Powermail.

What gives?

Thanks.

Harry
