ghost ! I might want my ashes shipped twice around the earth - east
west and north south to be measured once in nautical miles and then
again in meters or better kilometers.

Which makes more sense depends on whether you're going north-south
or east-west. The original definition of the meter was 1/10,000,000
of the distance from the equator to the north pole through Paris.
