That solved the problem for me. After reading through your link, I disabled Stuffit AVR, and now my computer is behaving as it should. Sure hope they come out with a fix for this, though.

Two other Mac groups I belong to have had members report strange
problems after using Software update to install QuickTime 7.6. Folders
disappear and Finder comes to the fronts and opens windows  previously
closed were the way they described the behavior. Both had recently
installed the QuickTime 7.6 update.

Someone pointed them to the following and you might keep this in mind
if you have are getting ready to update QT or are experiencing strange
problems after doing so. I'm waiting until either the problem has been
solved or I have a compelling need for QT 7.6 (I'm currently using QT
7.5.5).


There seems to be some issues with QuickTime 7.6 that people are
experiencing.
