Thanks, Lee, yes I do have Applecare, but have always shrunk from all
that work of backing up and reinstalling. But alàs, maybe I will have
to.
And one questions begets another: what is the difference between mp4
and mp3 . Methinks that somehow i cannot send files easily when they
are in mp4.

This works. However, the format is one of those Apple formats,
mp4 . My question is : If I send one like that to somebody without
a Mac, will that still work?
mp4 is a standard extension for an MPEG-4 file. It is not Apple
specific.
And BTW, nobody gave me an answer on my other question, why there
is a problem with my file in autosave, the computer can't find it,
but then I never did any auto-saving. What is my machine talking
about?
From your previous description, I suspect the hard drive on your MBP
has problems. I'd back it up, nuke the contents and reinstall, after
running something like Tech Tool on the thing. (You did get
Applecare, didn't you?)
