I think everyone has been victimized by the mysterious "Key Sense Hardware Error 0x03" at one time or another. Apple suggests the usual round of resets and reboots including resetting the CUDA or Power Management chips. Sometimes this works, but mostly it doesn't.
The usual fix is simply to change CD brands. I've used Memorex, Verbatim, TDK and more with mixed results. I think it depends on where Jupiter was in the Zodiac and whether it was a odd or even date on the day the particular disk was manufactured. Whatever. I was trying to back up some files on some double-sided Memorex disks. When I bought these, I got two packages at the same time. The first 25 worked flawlessly. The second set has been giving me fits with coaster after coaster. So I decided to research the mystery again. This time, I ran across a fix that I would equate to voodoo. The procedure is: Open System Preferences. Go to International Under Languages: drag any of the other languages to the top, then drag English back to the top. Make sure "order for sorted lists" is set to English. Make sure "work break" is set to English(United States, computer) **NOTE: it wasn't set this way originally in my prefs Restart Guess what? It actually works now. I've burned five disks from the stack with no prolbems at all. It's still running slow, only getting a 3x average write speed, but no coasters so far. I thought you'd be interested. Maybe next time I'm having a major hardware error, I'll start fiddling with the languages. Those language installers might be adding some secret fix-it-all software into the system.
