Saw your question, but had hoped someone else would jump in with an
answer. I think you would be fine with trashing the old, but don't
empty it. If you experience any problem, you can take it out of the
trash, shake off the coffee grounds, and re-install it. Make sure you
have all of your saved bookmarks in the new version before you finally
empty the trash. In searching for what others had done in your
situation, I found very little problems relating to it. Usually the
new version either updates the old and you don't see the old anymore,
or installing the new removes the old.
