I have one of the new 2.8Ghz Macbook Pros with 4GB RAM and 512mb VRAM.
On it Aperture still seems sloooow.
I've gone back and forth between it and Lightroom because there are
aspects of both that I like. Lightrooms performance on this machine
blows away Aperture, but Aperture's organization and workflow keep
pulling me back in.
Should this machine be able to properly handle a program like
Aperture? Moving sliders around in adjustments mode is very slow,
unlike doing so in Develop mode in LR.
I would be able to deal with the lagginess of Aperture if it could do
a few of the things that LR can, like import as DNG and write metadata
and keywords to the file (a big issue for me).
I've managed to come up with a workflow that uses both of the
programs, but it would be nice to just use one. Currently, I import my
RAW files as DNGs using LR and store them in my Pictures folder in a
Year>Year-Month>Month-Day structure (2009 > 2009-07 > 07-14, etc.).
All keywording is done via LR and saved to the file.
Then imported into a new project in Aperture (all the keywords are
recognized), and edited there (even dealing with the slowness, because
browsing is so much better in than LR).
Anyone have any suggestions to improve this workflow, or to speed up
Aperture, or a way to have Aperture write the keywords to the actual
files (without having to export then re-import the files)?
