And then try moving your cursor around in the left end of the name
"bubble" (actually anywhere in the "bubble") and you should get a down
arrow click again and see if you don't get what I get in Mail 3.6.
I found this very convenient earlier when I was trying to delete my
friends old address. If I don't do it right then I forget what address
I'm trying to erase.

Thanks, Anne, I did try, but while I get a number of former
recipients ( not all, but with the same alphabetical letter), when I
then click, it just puts the clicked name into the 'send' column. I
am running 10.5.8

deleting names (stored addresses)from previous recipient list
Marta,
I believe you asked about this. Dan Crutcher gave one method, but
as usual with Apple there's more than one way. I just accidently
fell on another.
When you enter a name in a new message (Apple's Mail), up pops a
list of previous recipients. If you click on the one you want to
get rid of you get a drop down menu and the first one listed in the
bottom group is Remove from previous recipient list. Also Delete
address.
Just straightened out my computer on a friend who just changed
email service.
