You might have fun doing it yourself, Stuart, and probably wouldn't
have to spend a cent except for the printing. Last item first ...
the printing ... you can print to pdf from whichever graphic s
program you use and email that file to Kinkos for output to one of
their plotters. As I recall, it is something like $10 for a 24x36.
I think they can go to 36 by whatever ... maybe 42 by ...
To manipulate the graphics for you montage ... you may want to use
Inkscape or GIMP. Either has a learning curve, but the reward is
substantial. Both programs are free and run under X11, which came
with your system. If you only want to drop graphic elements into
place and don't need to edit them afterward, something as simple as
Appleworks can be used.

Hi all,
Lately I've been thinking that it would be fun to use some of the
thousands of photographs I have to create a larger mosaic (many
smaller photographs used to create a large photo). Of course I've
seen this done, but wanted to know if any of you have had
experience with this and how it worked for you. This morning I
stopped by at MotoPhoto and they said they could do that, but it
would be about $100 and take a couple weeks. May not be a bad
price, given they said the printed size could be up to about 40 x
60. Are there good program(s) out there that will allow me to do
this myself (given I have an original Mac Mini that isn't super fast)?
Thoughts and info greatly appreciated!
Stuart
