Harry, 

There are a whole lot of settings on the computer, the router, and the DSL 
modem that have to all be lined up correctly to get a computer on the internet. 
Connecting to the wireless is the easiest and most obvious of them.

The easiest thing for him to do to fix this, though, is for him to call his 
provider and have them walk him through the process. They do exactly that 
thousands of times a day, let me assure you.
