Stuart,

You can only install Tiger (10.4) or Leopard (10.5) on that. Either will work 
fine. I would recommend Leopard, for the features, but Tiger might run a bit 
faster.

Do an "Erase and Install" to start afresh. Install from the disk and then get 
all the updates. You might also consider maxing out the RAM if it isn't already:
