Thanks, David; What a wonderful group we have. I am learning so much. Is there a list of all of us participating? What or who holds us together? We used to meet, long ago ( I could not get there now, unless I had transportation,) but I wish we would get to know who we are.

The term "Fi" is a shortened version of fidelity. Back in 1945, Columbia and others had news type of or music records, that they call "High Fidelity" and this was shortened to Hi-Fi. These records were highly advertised, and the record player that used them were also called high fidelity, and acquired the nick-name of Hi-fy.

Yes, I tried to read up on it, but nobody said anything in all the googling I did about the 'fi' . All those letters for me should mean something rather than sit there for nothing. Even in a wi-fi alliance the 'fi' should stand for something.

What does the "fi" in wifi stand for wireless -- what?

Probably nothing, really. It was a name dreamed up by the marketers at the Wi-Fi Alliance when they changed their name from the far less catchy WECA back in the 90s. They're a trade group that tries to make sure the 802.11 wireless standards are satisfied.
