Nolan ,I don't know anything about that, but I remember one of us asking you whether they run the same operating system, and I am asking whether you have them syncing? I have four computers in different places in the house and have them all do the same thing, they are clones, even with several still running Tiger, because there are some things I did not want to give up.

Of course I do the syncing via .Mac, but I remember even before that the ones I had were all coupled together. I am also able to connect to the server and bring the desktop etc from the one computer unto the other and keep the files on both.

Now I am really bad in explaining while I don't have the faintest idea what I am doing, but I thought if I make enough noise, somebody of our gurus might pick it up from here.

And don't stoop too low-- remember the philosopher, when asked how he came to such wisdom, answered that he was never ashamed to ask anything from anybody.

I posted this stoopid question several days ago, but got no answer, either because it got lost in the ether or truly was stoopid:

I have two Macs – one is a Power Mac G4 desktop, the other is a MacBook laptop. Although they were purchased about a year apart, they appear to be essentially the same, at least functionwise. I'm sure they have some different stuff "under the hood," but they're fully compatible. They are positioned about forty feet apart, desktop in my study and the laptop several doors away, in the bedroom mounted on what is known as an "AirDesk." Both have Dropbox installed. I consider the desktop the "master" and the laptop the "satellite." I try to keep them paired-up file-wise, but the laptop invariably falls behind – now way behind. My question: can I simply erase the hd on the laptop and start over, by putting the "master" hd in Dropbox and expecting it to show up on the "satellite"? If not, can the "master" files be transferred by some other means – memory stick, whatever. The "master" has an external drive which is essentially up-to-date; might it be used to make the transfer?

Any advice will be most appreciated.
