Anne,

There must be a better explanation but in essence Keynote will be able to use 
items you have inside iWork to help in completing a Keynote presentation.  
There may be graphs inside Numbers you want to use in your Keynote, you may 
have a story written inside Pages you want to include in Keynote so if you give 
Keynote permission to use these programs then you will have access to drag and 
drop them into the slideshow.

I click on "always allow" and you won't be bothered with the dialogue again.  
If you don't want cross program pollination then you many be presented with 
this each time you start Keynote, not sure for I allow.
