Monday Insight comes early to install the 50 meg internet modem. They insisted
I use their router as well, but I told them if that was the case I would stick
with the 20 as I had the house wired with music with the Airport Express
connected to the Extreme and Apple T.V.'s that also connect through the
Extreme. This may have worked with their router but why try when I also know
how to set up the Extreme and any changes in software Apple will update the
Extreme.

So they relented and said they didn't know if my router could handle the 50
meg. I then went to the Apple store for something else and while there I ask
them. Their tech people said the Extreme would handle 150 meg input, so there
sure shouldn't be any problems with 50. I wanted to let others know in case
you hear the same story from insight. Once installed I will let you know if it
works.

I also have a question. From the Extreme I will go into a Gigabit switch,
which then I will output to the panel that distributes the Cat5e throughout the
house with plugs in the walls. My question. Will Cat5e really push a full
gigabit? I thought it had to be Cat6 to get the gigabit but on the Linksys box
it says Cat5e.

HOW do you test to see what is coming out the pipe at the computer? Is there a
program that will tell you the speed coming through the cable? I would like to
try this with both the 5e and the 6 to see if there is a difference.

Many thanks for your help.

Be safe, it's slick.

John
