While we're on the subject of hard drives, present and future, I want to let everyone know where the best place to buy drives is. Other World Computing (alternatively known as MacSales or OWC) has a wide variety of bare drives (platter and solid state), a ridiculous array of enclosures of nearly every flavor, and are well known as the best place to get SSDs for current (SATA) and legacy (IDE/PATA) Macs.
Yes, they have solid state drives for the PATA/IDE interface. The means that you can speed up that old G4 desktop or notebook for a few more years. I have bought numerous drives and enclosures from OWC over the years and am about to bite the bullet and get my first SSD from them. Really great company and their products are among the highest rated and are often among the lowest priced around. Enjoy! j.
