I had a bad experience with the Fujifilm S2940 (see my review <http://www.epinions.com/review/fujifilm-s2940-digital-camera/content_571213319812?alert_type=0&comments=1&ratings=1&submit=Submit >, and am shopping again.

I want sharp pictures. Don't need to carry it in a shirt pocket. I'm finished with PhD (push here dummy) 16x lenses. I've narrowed it down to:

--> Canon S95, f2 (smallest), 28-105 = 3.8x, the same zoom range as my old 35mm camera, which was all I needed 99% of the time. <http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/canon-powershot-s95/4505-6501_7-34154931.html?tag=mncol%3Blst%3B1 >

--> Nikon P7000, f2.8-5.6, 28-200 = 7.1x, biggest & clunkiest, also cheapest <http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/nikon-coolpix-p7000/4505-6501_7-34176601.html?tag=mncol%3Blst%3B1 >

--> Panasonic Lumix LX-5, f2-3.3, 24 90 = 3.8x, Leica lens, most expensive. I like it. <http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/panasonic-lumix-dmc-lx5/4505-6501_7-34139138.html?tag=mncol%3Blst%3B1 >

Harry,

I too am looking for a new camera of same description. The one I keep coming back to is the Canon G12, a point-and-shoot that has a lot more features than the typical p-and-s. The feature I want that is becoming increasingly hard to find is a real viewfinder, you know, the kind you put your eye up to to frame and focus the shot. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but I find that way of shooting much superior to the hold-it-out-at-arms-length method that using the digital screen almost requires.

The G12 also has lots of manual settings you can use, a 5x optical zoom and lets you save photos in RAW format, which is essential if you want to do any serious color or exposure corrections.

If anyone else knows of a good point-and-shoot that still has a viewfinder, please let me know.

Thanks.

Dan

I'm in the market for a new camera (not an slr and not a small one that fits in your shirt pocket, but something in-between. There was a discussion a while back on this list but I don't remember what camera was recommended.

Your thoughts please!

Thanks

Harry
