Folks,

Don't want to go to seed over this but I had to share, even the Apple folks
don't know this but I'll inform them on my next class the 24th.

This may ONLY apply to these two products from Apple, maybe others as well.

I have the last four versions of FinalCut, Motion, iDVD, Compressor, Logic etc.
The new Final Cut, is completely different, getting a ton of bad press upon
it's initial release but now the latest version is lacking in only two things
that FinalCut Pro 7 had and both of these are to be added by the end of Feb.,
at least that is the date the Apple guys are talking.

So to have iDVD I had to install FinalCut Pro 7, this is no longer included in
FinalCut X, so here is where I kept having a problem.

Upon going through so many disk I finally got to a place where FinalCut 7 would
quit and say the installation failed. I did this three times so I took the
disk to Apple and discussed this with the instructor. He said I must have a
bad disk and I should call Apple and order a new one, hopefully they would
comply.

This problem was on the MacPro model, so last night I began moving the laptop
to Lion, it's going to be the same slow process but due to the next class being
the 24th I thought I would go ahead and install all the above mentioned
applications so I could take it with me instead of using their machines.

I had the same problem with Logic on the laptop that I had with FinalCut on the
MacPro. Failed install. However this time I noticed the application WAS
listed in the app folder so I double clicked and a window popped open saying
this version was not compatible with Lion, so I did the update and it worked
perfectly. I then did the same thing with FinalCut and got the failed install
but then did the update and it worked.

So, what Apple is doing is going ahead and installing the basic app., the
registration with your key numbers and for some weird reason they tell you it
was a FAILED install when in reality they should say to complete your
installation go to your software update and bring the program into
compatibility with Lion.

I wanted to pass this along, just in case a program you may be installing says
it failed, don't freak out like I did, check the applications to see if it's
there, try to load and do the update.

John
