I have a 5 year old MacBook Pro running Lion. I installed Lion this past spring. In June, I recorded a program on TIVO that I wanted to bring to my Mac and burn as a DVD. Toast Titanium (my version is 10.x) has a nifty little app - TiVo transfer app) which allows me to download a program from TIVO to my computer hard drive.
When I opened Toast the app was not there. I went to my TimeMachine backup and copied it to the Toast folder in my applications folder. It still didn't show up. I called Roxio for support but Roxio no longer supports version 10. Roxio is now owned by Corel. I managed to get hold of someone at corel who told me to uninstall Toast, create a new user and reinstall toast. I did this and the TiVo Transfer app showed up but it doesn't see my TiVo. Thinking it would be easier to get help from TiVo I called them and learned that the TiVo tranfer app does not work with lion. I would have to purchase Toast 11. But, the support tech went on to tell me I could download the TiVo Desktop app, pc version, to my wife's windows xp machine (I know, I know, but she doesn't want an iMac and when the pc goes kaplooie, I am going to try and convert her- but that's another story). I think TiVo has a deal with Roxio and the TiVo desktop app for the Mac does not support transfering files. Anyway I installed the PC version of the TiVo desktop app on my wife's PC, transferred the video file from TiVo to the PC then over my network transferred the file from the pc to my Mac and created a dvd of the program. Now here's the kicker. Under Mac OS 10.6 the TiVo Transfer app by Roxio would take 4-5 hours to transfer a 1 hour program from TiVo to my Mac. I would start it before I went to bed and then convert it the next day. Using the TiVo desktop app on the PC the file transferred from TiVo to the PC in under 2 hours, closer to an hour than to 2 hours. I wish I had known about the PC app years ago. Any way that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Harry (who is much wiser and happier now despite the taunts from my wife about using her PC). _______________________________________________ MacGroup mailing list [email protected] http://www.math.louisville.edu/mailman/listinfo/macgroup
