I had ask the question a few months ago if anyone had ever used a transcription
pedal to control applications on the Mac. I didn't get any response so this
message today will most likely not be of interest to anyone....but there is a
way.

I ordered the "Vpedal USB Transcription Foot Pedal 3 Function" from Amazon.
The software is clunky BUT it does work. You can set it up to work with any of
the default applications and then choose the one you are wanting to use from a
drop down menu. You can delete any of those you know you won't be using it
with and you can add your own applications. I only wanted it to work with
iTunes to Play, Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind.

It works beautifully, playing only when you hold the pedal down, stopping when
you let up. Pressing the pedal will rewind a few seconds (which is great for
my application) before it continues. The fast forward and rewind also work
beautifully. If you are now ready to use iTunes normally simply double click
on your selection and iTunes plays as normal.

If you have a need to slowly go through a Podcast, Book, University class,
words of a song, or whatever, and take notes this is much better than hitting
the spacebar to stop and start iTunes.
