Not sure I understand all you are doing, if you have Wireless set up with an 
Airport Extreme and if it's done correctly the modem was set to bridge mode so 
the Airport could distribute the IP addresses.  If that's the case then you are 
now wanting to go from the modem to another computer via cable and the modem 
has been set to not distribute iP addresses, which is correct.  Plug the 
ethernet cable into an ethernet port on the Extreme and see if that will not 
work.
