All the technology is reaching way too far into our private lives, but there seems to be little we can do.
For our 50th wedding anniversary we are going to take a trip, as a gift to my wife I bought her a new Jeep, it has more bells and whistles than the Space Shuttle, but one that is standard on SO many cars is using the iPhone from the Jeep radio system, something they call U-Connect. It seemed like a good idea......BUT I noticed when I linked my wife's phone with the SUV it was DOWNLOADING YOUR CONTACT INFO.!!! What? Now Jeep has ALL the info stored on her phone, and since they have wireless connectivity they can send the info. to their computers, and when a dealer plugs in their diagnostic equipment it would be very simple for them to do the same. That isn't necessary, they could easily use the info off the phone, it doesn't need to be inside the vehicle computer system!! We were having problems with the radio so a new one has been ordered and I'll not connect any phone with it, however they already have it all. Thank goodness I didn't link my phone for on it I have EVERYTHING of importance to us....logon info., passwords, account numbers etc. I had called Chrysler and ask if their system worked off cell towers or satellite, it was cell towers. We are going places where there may not be good cell tower coverage so I bought a new Garman GPS which of course uses satellite and it also wants to download the cell phone info. so you can make calls from the Garmin.....no way. So, with Linkedin trying to download all my contact info, I am sure FaceBook already has it all. I got out of Linkedin and will certainly be careful about all the "convenience" of using other companies systems it just isn't worth it. It really doesn't have to be this way, it's what they choose.......gripes me. John
