I am in a transition period, the MacPro model I have does not have Thunderbolt, the standalone drives are not large enough to backup all the internal drives using TimeMachine. I have found a LaCie unit that has 5 removable drives and uses ethernet to do the backup. In the future I will be using Thunderbolt so this drive would still work but most likely I will keep it with this particular machine.
