Sounds like you just have a bulb out. They're tough to replace, though. What 
brand is it? If it's a cheap-o off brand, you may be better off with a new one. 
If it's an expensive Apple one or an iMac, take it by MacAuthority and/or the 
Apple store and have them quote it for you. 

At any rate those bulbs last a long time, so the screen is likely pretty old?
