What it means is that the drive was not ejected from the OS properly. And that 
data could be corrupt if it was doing a write to the drive when the cord was 
removed from the computer at that time.

One external HDD generates “not properly ejected” messages, when it is mounted.

I interpret this to mean that the HDD spontaneously turns off and on.

Recommendations? (other than get a new HDD)
