Disk Utility normally will make three partitions, but not four.

First, I encrypted this disk.

Then, I erased it (several times)
but do not know what, I did to the separate encryption pass phrase area.

Then I tried to partition it.
Disk Utility would make two, but not three partitions

I just tried partitioning a different disk into four, and Disk Utility will not 
do it,
which leads me to believe that there is now an invisible encryption partition.

suggesting four partitions. Perhaps the fourth is cut out of the encrypted 
original three.

When prepping to partition, I’m confronted with Options, Revert, and Apply.
I believe kliking Options showed me nothing.
But, I do remember looking for and not finding a GUID option.

Now, all I have to do is find and eliminate the special encryption area.
