I’ve always wondered what percentage of market share Macs have among people who actually choose the computers that they use. I read today in the New York Times that Microsoft’s Windows OS has a 91% market share among all computers in use. That does not really surprise me, as there are far more computers used in business and corporate environments then as truly “personal” computers, and few large companies use Macs as their base computing platform.
But whenever I see photos in the press of real people using computers, it’s overwhelmingly Macs. In my own businesses we have between 10 and 20 interns each year working for us at various times. The ratio of Macs to PCs is probably 5 to 1 in favor of Macs. Almost every employee I have hired that had previously used only Windows-based computers has converted to a Mac as their personal computer after using the Macs that we use in our offices. Does anybody know of any statistics on Mac vs. PC usage among people who truly get to choose which kind of computer they use (as opposed to what they’ve been given to use at work)? I’ve got to think that the Mac market share is much higher than the usual 5-10% share that is reported in the press. > On Jan 22, 2015, at 9:30 PM, R. D.
