Use the VLC medial player <http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html>. It plays just about anything. I play out of region DVDs by turning off the automatic launching of DVD Player in System Preferences>CDs & DVDs and then launching VLC. There might be some machines where this won't work because some DVD drives won't even look at video DVDs from another region.
