On the ‘quitting’ issue:
Google’d several searches, and found "Disable automatic application termination 
in OS X” from Mac OS X Hints of 08/02/12, with a first reference of Mac OS X 
(10.7).  Contributed by paulbrainerd, and contains the Terminal command line to 
change the (general) feature mentioned.
