My experience with TWC:

On the day that I was supposed to have my speed turned up, I called to see why
I wasn’t getting it. Over the next several days, I had several conversations
with TWC advanced-tech-support-but-don’t-speak-english-very-well, a really
super on-site tech and a lineman that really knows his stuff.

I had been getting anywhere from 20 to 90 mbps on what was supposed to be 200
mbps service. Also, it was a brand new router that is on TWC’s approved router
list.

The tech replaced the line under my house because it had gotten crimped and was
showing a loss.

We swapped wires and devices in my router closet.

What we found: One of my home-made ethernet cables would only allow connection
at 100 mbps, even though the cable itself was Cat 6, which is supposed to be
able to handle way more. Evidently I had a bad connector or something on it

Also my fancy feature-laden router was not capable of handling the throughput.
After replacing the line under the house and bypassing the router and going
directly to the modem I was getting 175 mbps, totally enough to make me happy.
What does not make me happy is that I have to buy a new router that can handle
all the stuff I have connected to it and get the full bandwidth.

The lineman.
The next day I saw a guy working on the pole across the street. He was there to
see why my speed was a little low. (Evidently, the 175 mbps wasn’t making THEM
happy.) He said that where my line was connected to the main line was too far
from the nearest amplifier and he would put in an order to have that corrected.
It is capable of the 200 mbps that I needed, but not the 300 mbps service that
they offer. I don’t care about that, though, since I am paying enough already
and ANYTHING over the 30 mbps that was my previous service is awesome,
especially because it is for the same price.

So, check every cable and every box between your computer and the pole. Insist
they send a tech out because they have all the equipment to test the wires
with. Do NOT talk to “Advanced Tech Support” if you have blood pressure issues.
If you LIKE talking to people have have to start their script over again if you
answer them too early, then by all means, have at it. The remainder of my life
is too short.

YMMV, and all that.
