You can with an Apple Watch by telling Siri on the watch to increase or 
decrease the volume.  I can ask the watch to play the next song, to play songs 
by a certain artist, soundtrack from a movie, a playlist, etc while the iPhone 
is across the room.  I used to use an inversion table for my back & being 
upside down meant the phone would never stay in my pocket.  I paired the phone 
to a speaker & controlled the music & volume with the watch.  Cool stuff
